What Exactly Is A Long Leash?

What Do We Mean When We Say "Long?"

A conventional dog leash is 6 feet long, hence a long leash is any leash that is longer than that. However, the term "long leash" or "long lead" normally refers to leashes that are at least 10 feet long. Long leash lengths are normally limited to 100 feet since anything longer would be extremely difficult to manage!

So, what exactly is the point? Why use a lead that is potentially ten times the length of a standard leash?

Long leashes are intended to simulate the sense of off-leash enjoyment for dogs while also giving additional safety.

If you merely want to allow your dog a little more freedom on walks, a 15- or 20-foot leash like this Pawadiz Leash would suffice. Anything longer, and your stroll will become more difficult than required due to the extra line slack you'll have to carry.
